Yesterday, I had the honor to be part of Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares’ kickoff proclamation held in her 9th floor chamber; which incidentally overlooked a spectacular, yet stormy, view from Kahului harbor across the central plain under Haleakala toward Makena on the southside. Maui truly is a wonderful place to live and work, and I felt lucky to know that during these hard economic times, there are resourceful people here working hard to bootstrap their way to success. One example is the Mayor’s proclamation that February is “Got Choice…Think Local” month. Alongside several local business owners, the Mayor and her department heads, I also stood as one of the proud participant of this grassroots campaign to promote local business. In the interest of growing our local economy, I believe that buying products and services from your neighbors is the best way to do best business as well as save our environment; now and always.
